LS1 MAF 85mm, Can be easily Modified to improve performance. Remove screen, and cut out center air foil for higher flow and better performance.
What is a Mass Air Flow Sensor? The Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS) is a sensor that is placed into the "Air Intake" system of an electronic system and measures air flow (air inhaled into the engine) that passed through the air intake. There are various types of MAFS, such as the Karman Vortex Type and Mobile Flap Type. The wire is (placed) in the air passage way and heated by electric current. When air flows past the wire, the wire cools and the temperature changes. These changes are converted into electrical signals and the amount of air flow is then measured. Because the air inhalation resistance is less than "Mobile Flap Type" and the measurement scope is wider, it is widely accepted by the car manufacturer.
Air Intake System Air inhaled into the engines goes into the MAFS through an Air Cleaner and the Air Flow Rate and temperature are measured. This information is then sent to the ECU. The air from the MAFS goes into the combustion chamber through the throttle chamber.
Main Causes of Failure The main cause of failure is contamination of the sensor unit. Main symptoms are as follows: * Possible enigne stall while decelerating to stop vehicle * The engine speed becomes low while decelerating when turning * Low idling speed or inconsistent idling speed
Electrical components such as sensors are non-returnable parts.
Always refer to a factory service manual when diagnosing engine service problems. You can damage electrical components if the proper procedures are not followed. Be sure you are replacing the correct part.
